It only takes a moment
To pause and ground yourself To breathe in deeply and exhale slowly It only takes a moment To hug someone you love To close your eyes and sit in stillness It only takes a moment To count your blessings To step outside and breathe fresh air It only takes a moment To change your environment To put on the kettle and turn up the music Take care of yourself Tend to your needs Take the moment

A wave of nausea, a glimmer of hope
The wonder of pregnancy And then you grew. A bulging belly, a rippling movement Our lives intertwined And then you grew. The sleepless nights, the cherished snuggles I held you in my arms And then you grew. You changed Explored You resisted Rebelled You became Fell apart And changed again You became something new. And then you grew. A mother is pulled
from morning to night from child to child from task to task. A mother is pulled from dusk ‘till dawn from home to work from problem to problem. A mother is pulled from sunrise to sunset from want to need from chore to chore A mother is pulled to Mend hearts Build bridges Create community Provide safety Move mountains Make miracles And she does. Inside you
There’s an ember That’s waiting for a spark. It longs to burn but currently It’s waiting in the dark. Inside you There’s a passion That’s waiting to break out. Without a plan to take you there You’re stuck in your self-doubt. Inside you There’s a passion That could become a flame. But dreaming isn’t doing The two are not the same. It’s not enough to light the fire You need to keep it going. With patience and consistency You’ll keep the embers glowing. When the world tells you not to take up space: Take up space anyway. When the world tells you to smile and be polite: Only do so if it feels genuine. When the world tells you not to shine too brightly: Shine like a thousand suns. When the world tells you to follow along and be quiet: Walk your own path as loudly as you choose. Don’t wait another day to be unapologetically you. Even if...
Even if the laundry isn’t folded It’s enough: You can rest. Even if the dishes aren’t done It’s enough: You can rest. Even if the house is a disaster It’s enough: You can rest. It’s enough. You’re enough. You can rest. Even if... I planted the seeds of self doubt And soon my garden was overgrown and untamable. So I dug it up and tilled the earth And planted new seeds of acceptance. The flowers bloomed in colourful rows And I watered them daily with love. When the world feels really heavy,
Put it down. Look at the sky. Feel the breeze. Smell the flowers. Just put down the weight of the world And let your worries float away like clouds. I turn my face towards the sun
and close my eyes in reverie. The warmth wraps around my shoulders as a mother tenderly swaddling her newborn babe. A chorus of birds joins together in song. From somewhere in the distance, the scent of honeysuckle floats towards me on a breeze. I inhale deeply. A moment’s pause And then: Exhale Looking at the blue, summer sky
Releases everything. My swirling thoughts My pounding heart My anxious mind My rapid breath My hectic life All drift away on clouds |
