Don't listen to the voices that whisper in your ear: "You're older". "You've lost it." "You're fading." Beauty doesn't work like that. It doesn't have an age and, if it did, what would it be? Who would decide and why? What a ridiculous lie we've all been fed. Beauty isn't a set of physical standards, it's a way of existing in the world. Your beauty is the energy you carry on the inside. It's in your laughter, your light, and the impact you make on people's lives. Your true beauty is found in how you make others feel and how you contribute to the world. Everything else is a social construct, created for the purpose of keeping you down, making you consume, and reminding you of your presumed place within society. You are beautiful and that doesn't diminish with age. It only grows with every passing year, and every lesson learned. You are beautiful. Don't listen to the voices. They lie.

If you are like me, you may be excited about things opening up again and you may have a million things you want to do! I want to write, read books, hike, visit friends, exercise, do projects around the house and yet I often find myself watching tv, scrolling my phone or sitting on my butt.
The truth is that we’ve been through a lot and the world is so topsy turvy right now. Be gentle with yourself and take the time you need to get back into the swing of things. There isn’t a singular right way to do things. This video talks about why. I love the colours of the fall season, the beauty of nature and the crispness in the air. Yet the bleakness of what follows can leave me feeling blue. Transitions are difficult but necessary. Lean on those you love and reach out for the help that you need.
Our kids are so much more resilient than we give them credit for. Prior to Covid-19, there was a lot of talk about this generation of kids being coddled and lacking in resilience. they are proving us all wrong now! In this video I talk about how the students are adapting to the new normal of school in Ontario, from a teacher's perspective. Their strength and resiliency are admirable and what they are going through is life-altering.
What is personal development and why do I make it a daily part of my life? For me, personal development means being in a life long relationship with myself. Who I am at 45, is a completely different than the person I was at 40 or 35, or 30. As we grow and change, it is important to stay connected with the person that we are becoming as we are constantly in a state of "becoming". Trauma is when there are residual psychological effects caused by a distressing or disturbing experience. As our children return to school in the coming weeks, it is vital that we as parents and educators are compassionate towards their trauma, that we know they may be all over the place emotionally and that we understand they will all need to process this pain and fear differently. It is vital that we proceed with compassion and awareness.
